A £5mn donation from Egypt-born billionaire Mohamed Mansour helped the Conservative party secure donations of £12.3mn between January and March, more than doubling their takings from the previous quarter.
The Electoral Commission on Thursday published data showing political donations for the first quarter, as parties gear up for an election expected next year.
The next biggest donations, of £2mn apiece, were made by property businessman Graham Edwards and textiles mogul Amit Lohia to the Tory party.
Labour — which beat the Tories in the contest for donations in the second half of 2022 — recorded donations of £5.9mn, down from £7.2mn in the previous quarter. The Liberal Democrats recorded donations of £1.6mn, up from £1.4mn.
