The NFL is taking its games international with the help of Peacock, as one of the first match-ups of the 2024-2025 season is set to take place in São Paulo on Sept. 6, streaming exclusively on the platform. The Philadelphia Eagles have secured a slot to play in the league’s first-ever regular season game in South America, with the other team and game start time to be revealed later. This game will also mark the first time in over 50 years that the league has held an opening weekend match-up on a Friday night, as announced by the league.

Rick Cordelia, President of NBC Sports, expressed excitement for Peacock to showcase the NFL’s first regular season game in Brazil as part of NBC Sports’ presentation of three primetime games on the opening weekend. He noted that Peacock continues to deliver the best sports streaming experience, following this summer’s live streaming of every event of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. The announcement also revealed that Prime Video has secured a Wild Card game for next season, building on their successful streaming of Thursday Night Football since 2022.

Jay Marine, Prime Video’s Global Head of Sports and Ads, shared his excitement about bringing an NFL Wild Card playoff game to Prime Video for the first time. He mentioned the success of their previous seasons streaming Thursday Night Football and a Black Friday Football game and expressed eagerness to continue innovating for fans. The NFL’s Executive Vice President of Media Distribution, Hans Schroeder, commended the viewership success of Prime Video and Peacock, citing the historic Wild Card game as evidence that their streaming distribution is resonating with fans.

Despite the success of the Peacock exclusive game last year with approximately 23 million viewers, not all fans were pleased. Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu gave away Peacock memberships to ensure fans could watch the game. The NFL’s announcement specified that both the Peacock and Prime Video games will be available on free, over-the-air broadcast television in the local markets of the competing teams, in addition to NFL+. This move to streaming platforms indicates the league’s commitment to expanding its reach and providing fans with new and exciting ways to watch NFL games.
