Ryan Gosling made sure to seek his daughters’ approval before his performance as “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024 Oscars. He revealed that his long-term partner Eva Mendes and their daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee, provided him with feedback and tips during the dress rehearsal. Gosling acknowledged that his daughters’ interest in Barbie and disinterest in Ken initially inspired him to take on the role, making their presence at the event even more special.

While the exact advice given by his daughters is unknown, Gosling’s performance of the Oscar-nominated song was highly praised. He began the number by sitting in the audience behind Margot Robbie and eventually made his way to the stage alongside Mark Ronson, Slash, and more than 75 cowboy-hat-clad Kens. Despite not winning the award for best original song, Gosling’s Marilyn Monroe-inspired performance became one of the most memorable moments of the night.

Although Eva Mendes did not walk the red carpet with Gosling, she shared photos from his dressing room on Instagram before the show. Mendes posted a clip of herself standing beneath Gosling’s dressing room sign with the caption “Always by my man” and later shared a photo wearing Gosling’s crystal-covered hot pink Gucci suit jacket and custom black Stetson hat, jokingly urging him to come home to put the kids to bed.

The couple, who met and fell in love while filming “The Place Beyond The Pines” in 2012, have remained notoriously private throughout their relationship. Mendes explained to her Instagram followers in April 2023 that they choose not to walk red carpets together to protect their privacy. She stated that she only shares photos that are already public and prefers to keep their personal life private. Despite this, Mendes expressed her desire to work with Gosling on another movie in the future.
