(KFGO/KNFL) The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton softball team used two 7th inning comebacks to reach Friday’s Class AA final versus St. Charles. In the final, the Rebels would get all the runs they would need early in a 3-1 victory to claim the school’s first softball title.
DGF scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with none out. A passed ball scored the game’s opening run. Danielle Boyd singled in another run to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead, and DGF added another run on a double steal for a 3-0 advantage. St. Charles responded with a run in the bottom of the first.
St. Charles threatened in the bottom of the third inning, but left two runners on base. The pitching duo of Autumn Leach and Natalee Linman stymied St. Charles to seven hits.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th, St. Charles mustered up a two-out rally with a pair of singles. Emma Chuchna reached on the second single, and tried to score on an errant throw to third, but DGF third baseman Lexi Froemke threw out Chuchna at the plate to end the game.
DGF finished the season 26-2.
