Joh Sierman
Fargo City Commission public hearing
Property tax tension:
FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo city commissioners heard public comments on the 2024, 120-million-dollar preliminary budget and the rising property taxes at Monday’s meeting. The tax hike is expected to add more than $ 11 million to the city’s budget. The proposed budget is 7.5% higher than last year and includes a two-mill property tax increase and franchise fee hike.
Many residents who spoke are opposed to the rising taxes. John Sierman told commissioners he’s only received a 4% raise at work for the last three years and doesn’t have the money to pay his property taxes. He said that property tax went up 9% last year and 15% this year. His power bill went up $100 a month and his food bill went up $300 a month and many people are the ones who are suffering
Another resident, Glenn Knutson, told city commissioners they need to come up with ways to cut city spending.
The city commission is expected to vote on the budget on October 2.
