A charity auction organized by Cinema for Gaza in support of Medical Aid for Palestinians has drawn in donations from major names in the U.K. film and TV industry. Contributors include Tilda Swinton, Ken Loach, Asia Kapadia, Ramy Youssef, Peter Capaldi, Imelda Staunton, Brian Cox, Joseph Quinn, Mike Leigh, Misan Harriman, Joanna Hogg, Aimee Lou Wood, and Josh O’Connor. The auction, scheduled to go live on April 2, features items such as a bedtime story read by Tilda Swinton over Zoom, a porridge masterclass with Josh O’Connor, and a chat about astrology with Aimee Lou Wood.

Also included in the lots are signed memorabilia from shows like “Downton Abbey” and “Doctor Who,” signed posters by Mike Leigh, Ken Loach, and Asif Kapadia, as well as opportunities to have virtual tea with Joseph Quinn and Paapa Essiedu. The funds raised from the auction will support the urgent humanitarian work conducted by Medical Aid for Palestinians in Gaza, whose healthcare infrastructure has been severely affected by Israel’s military siege.

The organizers of Cinema for Gaza believe that art and politics are interlinked and have called for action to help those affected by the ongoing conflicts in the occupied Palestinian territory. The auction serves as a fundraising platform that brings together people from all sectors of the film industry to support Palestinians who are facing atrocities and attacks with impunity. Medical Aid for Palestinians, established in the 1980s, works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.

The charity is currently responding to the emergency in Gaza, where the healthcare infrastructure has been severely impacted by the recent Israel-Hamas war that broke out following attacks by Hamas in Southern Israel. The situation in Gaza has escalated, making it more crucial than ever to raise funds for life-saving efforts to support the Palestinian population. The auction provides a way for individuals in the film industry and beyond to contribute to humanitarian efforts and show solidarity with the people of Gaza in their time of need.
