Bollywood actor Boman Irani is stepping into the world of directing with his debut film “The Mehta Boys.” With a career spanning over 100 acting credits, Irani became a household name with hits like “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.” and “3 Idiots.” His most recent film, “Dunki,” was one of the top 10 Indian hits of 2023, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in Indian cinema.

Irani recently spoke at the inaugural Cinevesture International Film Festival in Chandigarh, where he shared details about “The Mehta Boys.” The film is co-written with Alexander Dinelaris and focuses on the complex relationship between a father and son who have a difficult time getting along. Irani met Dinelaris in New York, where the two immediately connected over the story and decided to collaborate on the script.

Despite initial skepticism from a producer due to Dinelaris’ lack of writing credits, Irani stood by his decision to work with the writer. Dinelaris went on to win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for “Birdman,” solidifying his talent as a writer. Over the course of eight years, Irani and Dinelaris developed the script for “The Mehta Boys,” working on it five pages at a time.

Now that the film is completed, Irani has revealed that the cast includes himself along with Avinash Tiwary and Shreya Chaudhry. The film will undergo a festival run before being released theatrically, marking a significant moment in Irani’s career as he transitions from acting to directing. “The Mehta Boys” promises to be a heartfelt and poignant story that explores the complexities of family relationships.
