Bollywood actor Boman Irani is set to make his directorial debut with the film “The Mehta Boys.” With over 100 acting credits, Irani shot to fame in Bollywood with roles in popular films such as “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.” and “3 Idiots.” His most recent film “Dunki” was among the top 10 Indian hits of 2023.

During the Cinevesture International Film Festival and market in Chandigarh, Irani revealed that the script for “The Mehta Boys” was co-written with Alexander Dinelaris. The film tells the story of a father and son who spend 48 hours together but cannot stand each other. Irani met with writers in New York to develop the script, with Dinelaris providing valuable insights and assistance in shaping the narrative.

Despite having no previous film credits, Dinelaris resonated with the story and collaborated with Irani on the script. The project initially faced challenges with a producer who was hesitant to bring on an inexperienced writer, but Irani chose to stick with Dinelaris. The writer’s talent became evident when he went on to win an Oscar for his work on “Birdman,” proving his abilities to the naysayers.

Irani and Dinelaris worked on developing the script for “The Mehta Boys” over an eight-year period, creating the story five pages at a time. The film features a cast including Irani himself, Avinash Tiwary, and Shreya Chaudhry. Recently completing the editing process, the film is set for a theatrical release following a festival run, showcasing the collaborative efforts of Irani and Dinelaris in bringing the project to life.
