It looks like Nicole Kidman’s eyes are wide shut after all.
The Oscar winner stars in Balenciaga’s spring 2023 campaign, posing in a polished office setting alongside the likes of Bella Hadid and Isabelle Huppert.
Now, social media users are calling on Kidman to condemn another series of ads from the brand, which feature children toting bags shaped like teddy bears dressed in bondage gear.
While Hadid, 26, scrubbed her Instagram of some (but not all) of her photos from the previous campaign amid the backlash, Kidman’s post is still up — and her followers have noticed.
“This brand is attempting to indoctrinate the culture with darkness,” one bold commenter wrote. “Sexualizing toddlers is never okay,” another added.
“What if those were your little girls in that campaign,” a third chimed in, while a fourth wrote in all caps, “WHERE IS YOUR STATEMENT.”
Another fired-up commenter pointed out that fellow former Balenciaga campaign star Kim Kardashian has publicly condemned the brand’s teddy bear ads, asking Kidman, “Why the silence here?”
In a statement shared on Twitter Sunday night, Kardashian wrote, “I have been quiet for the past few days, not because I haven’t been disgusted and outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened.”
Continued the star, “As a mother of four, I have been shaken by the disturbing images. The safety of children must be held with the highest regard and any attempts to normalize child abuse of any kind should have no place in our society — period.”
Kardashian, who in addition to posing for Balenciaga ads has walked the house’s runway and worn the brand on multiple red carpets over the years, also said she’s “currently re-evaluating [her] relationship” with Balenciaga, “basing it off their willingness to accept accountability for something that should have never happened to begin with — & the actions [she is] expecting to see them take to protect children.”
A representative for Nicole Kidman didn’t immediately respond to Page Six Style’s request for comment.
