Jay Leno is receiving various forms of treatments to heal his third-degree burns.
In video obtained by “Inside Edition,” the “Jay Leno’s Garage” host lies in a hyperbaric chamber where his left arm can be seen bandaged almost to his elbow while just his right hand is wrapped.
A brief glimpse also reveals Leno’s face is entirely wrapped in gauze.
Dr. Peter Grossman explained that the hyperbaric chamber helps to “decrease swelling” and “increase blood flow with good oxygenation,” as well as decrease bacteria.
Grossman also shared Wednesday that Leno, 72, was in “good” condition after undergoing one surgery that was described as a “grafting procedure.”
“His injuries are serious, his condition is good,” the doctor said, adding that Leno “did well” during the first surgery.
“He is in good spirits today,” Grossman shared.
The former “Tonight Show” host explained that he had been working on his 115-year-old car over the weekend when a fuel leak and a simultaneous spark in the 1907 White Steam Car triggered an explosion. He credited his friend Dave with saving him by immediately jumping on the flames to snuff them out.
“I am OK,” Leno later said in a statement. “Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”
Grossman shared that the burns Leno sustained in the freak accident covered the comedian’s face, hands and chest. He also said he anticipates Leno will make a “full recovery” from his injuries but did not specify how long the process could take.
“As I’m getting to know Jay, I don’t think it’s going to be months,” Grossman said. “I think he’s the kind of guy who’s gonna move forward.”
