Chrishell Stause felt guilty about her sexual orientation when she first found herself attracted to her now-partner, G Flip.
The “Selling Sunset” star – who for most of her life considered herself to be straight – revealed in a joint interview with Vogue Australia that she once told the drummer, “I apologize for being straight” after they asked her out on a date.
The couple first met at a Halloween party in Los Angeles in 2021, but reconnected at another gathering that following February.
Stause – who was fresh off her breakup with her “Selling Sunset” boss and co-star, Jason Oppenheim – said she shared a kiss with G Flip at the fête, but didn’t think much of it because she had kissed women before “for the guys’ reaction.”
“I had no issue doing something like that, but in my head I [didn’t think I] could have a meaningful relationship with somebody …” the former soap star, 41, explained, adding, “I definitely still thought I was straight at that party!”
G Flip – who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns – asked out Stause soon after, which is when they received the mea culpa about her orientation.
However, the chemistry only continued to flourish once the pair got together again for a real estate meeting.
“I specifically remember because it was the same feeling you would have when somebody you have a crush on gets a little too close into your space and you get a little flush … flustered,” Stause recalled to Vogue.
“But for me, that bodily reaction where I was like, ‘Oh, hold on a second, that’s familiar,’ that was a turning point.”
Stause and G Flip, 28, decided to give their romance a real chance and went public with their relationship in May 2022 on the “Selling Sunset” Season 5 reunion.
Stause told Vogue about some of the hate they both received as a result, sharing, “Every day I’m seeing, like, three positive comments and then hundreds of puke emojis and midlife crisis comments. At first, it felt so heavy, like, ‘What have you done?’ because it brought all this negativity to G’s life.”
However, the couple decided to not let the trolls influence their lives and Stause – who was previously married to TV heartthrob Justin Hartley and only publicly dated men – reflected on what her new lover has taught her.
“I feel like you get to an age and you’re supposed to know it all by then, but there is no age where you know it all, because you’re always evolving,” the “Under Construction” author said.
“And this is the perfect example of a relationship that a few years ago I wouldn’t have thought was possible.”
She added that G Flip helped her realize she’s “attracted to energy, not whatever physical thing that people have in their head.”
