Shawn Johnson couldn’t stop crying when she was reunited with her kids following the Nashville school shooting Monday morning.
The Olympic gold medalist revealed Drew, 3, and Jett, 1, were “on lockdown” at their school after a shooter opened fire inside a private Christian elementary school nearby.
“I haven’t been able to catch my breath since reading the news and getting a call from our school that they were on lockdown as well given the news. Shaking. Crying. Heartbroken. Horrific,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.
The gymnast shared a video of herself in tears while holding her kids, whom she shares with former NFL player Andrew East.
“Our babies are now home with us. I feel lucky and blessed but still so incredibly sad. No parent or family should ever have to deal with this,” she wrote.
Johnson detailed the scene in the Tennessee capital, saying she witnessed “children’s ambulance, countless police cars, buses of children being transported to safety, parents flying down the street laying on their horns [and] people sprinting in and out of churches and schools looking for their kids.”
“Today has changed me,” she added.
Six people were killed, including three children, after a 28-year-old woman entered the Covenant School strapped with two assault rifles and a handgun.
Johnson said she was “praying” for the families “whose baby won’t be coming home from school today.”

“I also pray for the children and adults who may have witnessed, first hand, the heinous acts of violence inflicted today,” she went on.
“My mama heart is shattered you guys. You don’t ever fully recover from this. Thinking of these beautiful innocent babies, their families, the first responders, the teachers, everyone affected by todays heinous act … the silence in Nashville is very loud right now.”
Page Six has reached out to reps for Johnson but did not immediately hear back.
The former Team USA star, 31, wed East, also 31, in 2016.
She and the ex football player welcomed their baby girl Drew in 2019, followed by Jett in 2021.
Shawn previously suffered a miscarriage before welcoming her baby boy, and also tested positive for COVID-19 while pregnant.
