“Sweet Planet,” a six-part culinary documentary, is a high-profile China-Europe co-production that will air on China Global Television Network. The show explores the impact of sugar in cooking and food rituals around the world, showcasing the stories of local chefs, farmers, and artisans behind sweet delicacies. The production visited various locations including Iceland, China, The Netherlands, Copenhagen, Canada, Fuzhou, and Ushuaia, Argentina, to uncover the culinary and cultural significance of sugar.

The series will be available on CGTN’s six channels in 68 languages, reaching over 700 million viewers worldwide. It will also be accessible on CGTN Digital, as well as platforms such as CGTN.com, mobile applications, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Weibo, and other social media platforms with over 600 million followers. Insight TV, with global channels reaching over 400+ million households in 56 countries and available for licensing to additional platforms, is a part of this collaboration.

The launch event for the series took place in The Hague and was attended by Insight TV CEO Rian Bester and Qian Fang, director of the program department at CGTN Europe. Bester expressed confidence in the series being well-received in China and internationally, on CGTN’s feeds as well as on Insight TV channels worldwide. JOIIN, the Netherlands-based production company involved in the co-production, has a creative hub in Amsterdam and an operation hub in Beijing, serving clients in the Eurasian territory with a focus on Greater China and Southeast Asia.
