BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO/PRAIRIE PUBLIC) – Anti-smoking advocates say they’re working to kill a bill that would allow “cigar bars.”
The House has already passed the measure. Supporters say cigar bars are a “unique” business, in that adults are aware of and consent to second-hand smoke.
“People who do not smoke, but are exposed to second-hand smoke, are inhaling many of the same cancer-causing components and poisons,” Marissa Brown with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network said. “Even brief exposure can damage the body’s cells in ways that set the cancer process in motion.”
The bill – HB 1229 – passed the House 59 – 32. It will now be considered by the Senate.
