Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski (KFGO News)
FARGO (KFGO) – Authorities released video footage Friday showing 29-year-old Tyre Nichols being beaten by five Memphis police officers who held the motorist down and repeatedly struck him with their fists, boots and batons as he screamed for his mother.
The video is filled with violent moments showing the officers chasing and pummeling Nichols and leaving him on the pavement propped against a squad car as they fist-bump and celebrate their actions.
Nichols later died of cardiac arrest and kidney failure.
In a letter posted on the Fargo Police Department Facebook page Friday evening Chief Dave Zibolski had this to say:

The Fargo Police Department mourns Tyre’s death and offers thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and the Memphis community. In addition to the obvious excessive force used during this incident, the failure of any of these officers to intervene and protect Tyre is unacceptable and conflicts with our department’s values, as well as that of the larger policing profession.
On behalf of the entire department, please know that we are dedicated to keeping our community and community members safe, and we thank you for your continued partnership and support.
