He’s breaching tradition to ditch his breeches.

King Charles III’s coronation outfit is going to “break away from tradition” and steer clear of the “dated” look of the past, according to reports.

The monarch will be formally crowned on May 6 following his ascension to the throne in September after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II — Britain’s longest-reigning sovereign.

And while the royals have always stuck true to their centuries-old traditions, it seems as though the King is looking to switch things up to keep up with the times.

In previous coronations, the monarch traditionally wore silk stockings and breeches — often worn for horse riding.

But a source told The Sun that Charles will don his military uniform on the big day in a bid to represent the “modern 21st-century monarchy.”

“Senior aides think breeches look too dated,” an insider told the outlet, suggesting that the monarch is being advised against tradition.

While Buckingham Palace has remained somewhat tight-lipped about the upcoming extravaganza, it did tease that the crowning will be a scaled-back affair.

Taking place at Westminster Abbey, the 74-year-old’s coronation will “reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in long-standing traditions and pageantry,” Buckingham Palace has previously said.

Page Six has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.

Earlier this month, royal expert Jennie Bond teased that the ceremony will be more “inclusive, relevant and less archaic” than Queen Elizabeth’s opulent coronation back in 1953.

Bond added that the ceremony is “clearly going to be a big event” — perhaps even “more enormous than the funeral of the queen in terms of state attendees.”

Queen Elizabeth died at age 96 on Sept. 8, 2022. Charles — her eldest son with the late Prince Phillip — immediately ascended to the throne following her death.

Bond also hinted that the ceremony would be a symbol of “unity” amid unprecedented tensions in the royal family following the release of Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir.

Amid whispers over whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will attend the coronation in May, an insider recently said that a royal reunion is not in the cards “at this moment in time.”

“He has never been one to make quick judgments,” a source told the Evening Standard. “There is no appetite at this moment in time to engage.”

Earlier this month, Harry refused to commit to attending the event, saying “there’s a lot to be discussed” before he can make that decision.

“There’s a lot that can happen between now and then,” Harry told ITV’s Tom Bradby. “But, the door is always open. The ball is in their court.”
